Vegas Recap, Part 1

You already know how our time at the airports went, so I’ll skip those parts.

Day 1

The first order of business, though, was getting packed. My wife bought new luggage tags for the occasion. Here is most of our luggage, right before I loaded it into the minivan:

Flying

Before we left the house though, here is how the kids felt:

  • Alpha – no big deal, he has been on airplanes enough
  • Beta – excited to add to his tally of flights
  • Gamma – anxious about flying
  • Delta – airplane! airplane!

Here is how they looked on the plane:

The kids did fine on the airplane. No layovers on the way to Las Vegas, so we were in the air for a few hours. I don’t remember any problems.

We got there after dark our time, but it was still light at Pacific Time. So we were excited but tired. Gamma fell asleep on the 45-minute-ish drive to the house, but everyone else (even Delta, surprisingly) stayed awake. I liked seeing all the new scenery.

Here is the first thing I noticed as we were driving out of the airport:

And here is confirmation of our destination:

We got to the house, greeted all the relatives, and then got ready for bed.

Day 2

The kids got up early – normal for Eastern Time but early for Vegas. My brother and I each took two of our kids and went to Red Rock Canyon:

During the drive there, it was obvious that we weren’t in Michigan anymore:

The kids had fun walking on the trail:

and even more fun climbing rock formations:

I had been telling the kids that the area reminded me of the places described in the old Lone Ranger radio shows. Fittingly, we ran into a caravan of horses on our trail. We stepped aside so they could go past.

The rest of that afternoon was spent relaxing at the house. I believe I played a game of Stratego, and probably another game or two as well. Then dinner, get the kids ready for bed (lots of red dust to wash off) and then go to bed at what my body thought was about 1 AM.

who led them through the depths? Like a horse in the desert, they did not stumble.
